Norway’s biggest oil company will be developing an offshore wind farm outside of New York. Statoil submitted the winning bid of $42.5 million to the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management last Friday to lease nearly 80,000 acres of federal waters roughly 14 miles off the coast of Long Island
Earlier this year, Studio Roosegaarde installed a smog-sucking vacuum tower in Beijing, a Chinese city renowned for its air pollution. The Smog Free Tower works to combat air pollution by sucking 75% of PM10 and PM2.5 particles from the air. It runs on a small amount of electricity and is powered by wind energy.
The world has also seen solar energy continue to gain momentum as just last month, the Tesla company announced that they will begin selling solar roof panels in 2017 that will likely be more cost effective than a “regular roof.” Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk said of the announcement: “It’s looking quite promising that a solar roof will actually cost less than a normal roof before you even take in the value of electricity into account.”
