Greg Eghigian, Penn State

On June 25, 2021, the U.S. government released a nine–page preliminary report on UFOs, or, as it is now calling them, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UAPs. The report is the latest notable event in what has been a renaissance for UFOs in recent years. Greg Eghigian is a historian of science at Penn State who has published research and is writing a book on the history of UFOs in the U.S. We spoke with him for The Conversation Weekly podcast the day before the new report came out to better understand the cultural history of UFOs in the U.S.

Below are excerpts from our conversation that have been edited for length and clarity.

When did the idea of UFOs first emerge?

The idea of aliens and that other worlds might be inhabited actually goes back to ancient times. The question was a matter of real debate among philosophers, scientists and theologians in the Western world by the 18th century and it was widely accepted that alien civilizations existed.

But something changed in the 19th century. That’s when you first start to see these reports of people seeing what they say were flying ships overhead. The things people describe back then sound a lot like the things they were familiar with – they literally saw ships and vessels that would normally float on the sea in flight. Some people would see steam-powered ships.

But it’s really not until the summer of 1947 that people began to regularly speak of seeing flying objects that some attributed to extraterrestrials.

What happened in 1947?

A pilot by the name of Kenneth Arnold was flying his small plane near Mount Rainier in Washington state. As he was flying around he said he saw some sort of glimmer or shine that caught his eye and was concerned that maybe he was going to have a collision with another aircraft. When he looked, he saw what he described as nine very odd-shaped vessels flying in formation.

After Arnold landed, he reported his sightings to authorities at a nearby airport and eventually talked to some reporters. When a reporter asked Arnold to describe how the things moved, he said, “they flew like a saucer would if you skipped it across water.” Some very clever enterprising journalists came up with the headline “flying saucers” and from that point forward they were flying saucers – even though Arnold never uttered the phrase himself.

A Gallup poll six weeks after the event discovered that 90% of Americans had heard the term flying saucer. This was the beginning of the phenomenon that some call the flying saucer era and the contemporary idea of UFOs.

Within days other people in the country began reporting having seen similar things in the sky. Within weeks the U.S. Air Force decided to look into the reports. Arnold’s story also triggered a lot of press interest and soon the international media were covering this story. It was a worldwide phenomenon within months.

Who starts to look into UFOs?

Two things happened in parallel: First were government-sponsored investigations in the U.S., specifically within the Air Force. Starting in 1947 the Air Force set in motion a number of different projects all basically interested in one question: Do UFOs represent a national security threat? The government wasn’t interested in a deep scientific analysis of these things.

On the other hand, from 1947 to 1950 you had a lot of the general public who were just utterly fascinated with the mystery of flying saucers. What are they? Are they real? If they are real, who’s behind them? Some people threw around the idea of aliens, but that’s not really the major theory that people bought into. Most people – if they thought the sightings were real – believed they were either secret weapons of the U.S. military or secret weapons or secret aircraft of the Soviets.

So out of this fascination developed what you could call the equivalent of fan groups – flying saucer clubs. Those became the seeds of growth in the 1950s and 1960s for UFO organizations first at the local, then the national and then the international level.

How did government programs fit into the UFO ecosystem?

A lot of what the Air Force did was behind closed doors and supposed to be clandestine. The government has released files over many years that show that a considerable number of UFO sightings were people seeing secret airplanes like the U2. It’s no surprise that the Air Force would try to keep strict control over what’s revealed to the public.

But that strict control is one of the many things that fed conspiracy theories over the years. The idea among UFO believers became “The government isn’t shooting straight with us. Somehow we’ve got to get these people to disclose all the information they know.”

What is the modern American perspective on UFOs?

Up until the ‘90s the Cold War played a really fundamental formative role in how people in the U.S. imagined UFOs – both in terms of how we think about humanity’s prospects technologically, but also relating to the fears and anxieties surrounding the Cold War. But when the Cold War ended, interest fell off. From the late 1990s into the early 2000s media coverage was nominal.

That all changed with the 2017 revelations about the secret UFO project in the Pentagon. This spurred on a resurgence of interest in UFOs. The way the media were talking about UFOs had lot of the same elements from before: Are these things alien? If they’re not alien, are they from our military or somebody else’s military? Are the people who were pushing the narrative and stories of sightings operating in good faith or are these con men?

In so many ways this was all really reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s.

Do you see a shift in how scientists think of UFOs?

In my conversations with scientists I’ve been seeing some movement toward a willingness to say, “This stuff is maybe worthy of looking into more seriously.” The important change since the 1990s – specifically for astrophysicists and astronomers – has been the discovery of so many planets around other stars that could possibly support life.

I’m excited by the prospect of deeper study – both as a phenomenon that needs to be investigated by physical scientists but also as a social and cultural phenomenon. Mystery breeds speculation, and the UFO phenomenon is not a puzzle that can be easily solved. The mystery part gives people an opportunity to ask big questions about not just humanity’s place in the universe, but about the limits of technology and knowledge. I think that’s why people keep returning to the question of UFOs.

US intelligence has released a much anticipated wide-ranging report on military and government agencies’ encounters with UFOs, or what the report calls unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). The now-declassified Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) report which has been sent to Congress was made public late in the day Friday and reveals the US government has encountered over 140 instances of UAP.

I’ve been learning as much as I can about the new UFO narrative the political/media class has been pushing in conjunction with the US military to prepare for the Senate report that’s due to be released this month.

One of the disconcerting things I’ve been seeing again and again from all the major players in this new narrative like Lue Elizondo and Christopher Mellon is the absurd assertion that not only is it entirely possible that the unknown phenomena allegedly being regularly witnessed by military personnel are extraterrestrial in origin, but that if they are extraterrestrial they may want to hurt us.

Mellon, the former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence who helped get the ball rolling on UFOs entering mainstream attention back in 2017 when he leaked three Pentagon videos to The New York Times, has stated that he sees extraterrestrial origin as an entirely possible explanation for these phenomena.

“We don’t even understand how you could do something like that,” Mellon said in a recent interview with CTV News of the inexplicable maneuvers and features these aircraft supposedly demonstrate. “We don’t even understand the science behind it. Not like somebody’s a couple of generations of fighter jet behind us; I mean this is a whole difference of kind, not degree.”

Asked why the pilots of mysterious aircraft with incomprehensible scientific advancement might want to monitor the US military, Mellon said the following:

“Well probably for the same reason we do: to understand what kind of threat we could pose to them. Should a conflict arise they want to be able to engage us effectively, defeat us rapidly, at a minimum cost of life and treasure, just as we would on the other side. We do similar kinds of things; we don’t have vehicles quite like this, but we’re certainly very actively monitoring military forces of other countries.”

The notion that UFOs could pose a threat to humans whether their alleged operators are from our own world or from another is being promoted by the main drivers of this strange new plotline, and it is being enthusiastically lapped up by many UFO enthusiasts who see framing these phenomena as a national security threat as the best way to get mainstream power structures to take them seriously and disclose information to the public.

This is bothersome for a couple of separate reasons. Firstly, it is of course bothersome because one ought to be bothered any time military and intelligence insiders make unsubstantiated claims that there’s a foreign threat to US security. The added notion that this foreign threat could be from another world carries all kinds of implications for what kinds of unprecedentedly radical policy and funding adjustments would have to be made in order to counter this supposed threat, and it would take an appalling amount of gullibility to believe that those adjustments would be made for that reason at this point in time instead of the very obvious reason that the US is in a new and escalating cold war with both Russia and China.

Secondly, it’s bothersome because it just says so much about human madness that people believe UFOs could simultaneously be the product of an immensely advanced extraterrestrial civilization and also be a threat. They could be one or the other, but not both.

Just in our own tiny blip of recorded history, humanity has matured mentally and emotionally during our time on this planet. We no longer accept it as normal for our governments to torture someone to death in the town square, for example, and owning another human being as property is now seen as reprehensible. We’ve still got a mountain of inner demons to conquer, but you also can’t deny that we’ve created a much more conscious and peaceful world for ourselves than the one we used to live in.

Imagine how much further an intelligent life form would have progressed if it began maturing millions of years earlier than ours. Imagine how emotionally and intellectually developed civilization would have to be to make it past all the self-imposed dangers its own intelligence posed to it like the dangers human intelligence poses to us now, if it had passed the great test and cleared that hurdle in its maturation process, and then gone on maturing for thousands or millions of years past the point we’re at now.

When I bring this up online people tell me, “Well look at what the Europeans did when they met indigenous populations! That’s what happens when a more advanced civilization meets a less advanced one.”

You see this ridiculous notion pushed everywhere, including by supposedly smart people like Stephen Hawking, that Europeans meeting the indigenous people of Africa, Australia, and the Americas is a good model for what we could expect from an encounter with a civilization millions of years more advanced than our own. This reveals a fallacious assumption that genocidal Europeans were in fact “more advanced” than the other humans they met around the world; they were a bit more technologically advanced, but any research on the horrific things they did to those people will show you that they were emotionally infantile by today’s standards. It also looks at humans who began developing on the same planet at the same time as compared to extraterrestrials who would have begun developing long before us.

Beyond the fact that we have seen in our own experience that an intelligent consciousness will keep expanding its consciousness over time, the most glaring piece of evidence that UFOs could pose no threat to us if they are extraterrestrial is that if they did, they would have taken us out long ago. UFO encounters have been documented for generations; there is nothing humans could do to stop a sentient species that is orders of magnitude technologically superior to us, no matter what the movies say.

If extraterrestrials are here they clearly don’t want to hurt us, and why would they? What could we possibly have that they’d want? In the unlikely event that there is some kind of element or resource here that they need, there’s no reason to believe they couldn’t get it elsewhere, or indeed that they couldn’t create it themselves at the level of scientific understanding they’d necessarily be operating from.

The idea that a civilization could attain a level of advancement comparable to ours, successfully learn to share resources and collaborate enough to avoid wiping itself out, continue maturing for a very long time, master interstellar, intergalactic, and/or interdimensional travel, create aircraft that can operate in the way people who encounter them describe, and then fly across the universe to go kill a bunch of barely-evolved primates for some reason is just absurd on its face, and even if such a thing could happen it would have happened already. This is humans projecting their own particular madness onto a hypothetical species far more mature than our own, myopically assuming that our collective insanity is some kind of immutable quality of consciousness itself.

I’ve sat through so much video footage on this subject, and I just get so frustrated listening to all these military-minded men talking about the need to know what the “capabilities” of these things are and how to prevent them from posing a threat to “national security”. If we are in fact not alone in this universe and are in fact being visited by other civilizations, these are the absolute stupidest questions we could possibly be asking ourselves about them. Not how can we contact them, not is it possible to communicate with them, not what could we learn from them, not where are they from and what is their story, but how can we kill them if we need to.

I have no idea if we are being visited by ETs, but if we are the US military is literally the worst thing our species could possibly use to relate to them.

Venerable news program 60 Minutes devoted a significant portion of Sunday night’s broadcast to exploring incidents of Navy pilots witnessing unidentified aerial phenomena and the United States government’s recent acknowledgment of the issue. Amazingly, the nearly 15-minute-long segment, which can be seen in its entirety above and is transcribed here, was actually the first time the program has ever covered UFOs in its more than five decades on the air. The piece largely served as an explainer to the 60 Minutes audience who may have been unaware of the remarkable series of UFO-related events that have been unfolding since the late 2017 New York Times article that revealed a Pentagon program to study unidentified aerial phenomena.

During the segment, reporter Bill Whitaker spoke to former military intelligence official Lue Elizondo and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Christopher Mellon, about their concerns regarding what they see as the government’s unwillingness to take a critical look at the UAP issue and how they have been working to rectify that situation. Also interviewed were former Navy pilots Lieutenant Ryan Graves and Alex Dietrich as well as retired US Navy pilot commander David Fravor. All three former pilots recounted their personal experiences witnessing unidentified aerial phenomena, with Graves making the eye-brow raising statement that he saw UAPs “every day for at least a couple of years.”

While UFO enthusiasts may have found most of the material in the segment to be a retread of information that has already been circulating in bits and pieces over the last three years, the show undoubtedly brought a sizeable portion of the public up to speed on the matter, which is something of a victory for those wishing for the subject to be taken more seriously. On that note, one particularly telling aspect of the program was that, unlike in the vast majority of instances wherein the mainstream media looks at UFOs, the phenomenon was given a sincere examination rather than being the subject of ridicule. Additionally, it is noteworthy that not once during the segment were the words “alien” or “extraterrestrial” uttered by anyone.

On the contrary, while the possibility that UAPs could be otherworldly was somewhat alluded to, a scenario in which they are foreign craft was treated as equally plausible. And, ultimately, the general message imparted by the piece was that not seriously examining the phenomenon, due to its decades of proverbial baggage, leaves the United States vulnerable to whatever dangers these oddities may pose. This point was stressed by Senator Marco Rubio, who appeared during the piece and declared that “anything that enters an airspace that’s not supposed to be there is a threat.”

The senator went on to call for “a process to analyze the data” from UAP reports by pilots and argued that there needs to be “a place where this is cataloged and constantly analyzed until we get some answers.” Should next month’s highly-anticipated Pentagon report on UAPs indicate the need for greater understanding of the phenomenon, Rubio’s proposed effort to unravel the UFO enigma may very well come to fruition. That said, as always with UFOs, one is wise to temper their expectations when it comes to finding a complete answer to the mystery as the phenomenon has proven time and time again to be particularly adept at confounding even the best efforts to understand it.

A recently published article in The New Yorker written by Gideon Lewis-Kraus, previously a writer-at-large for the New York Times Magazine, goes quite in-depth into the UFO phenomenon. It’s always great when the topic attains more “legitimacy” within the mainstream, but it’s unfortunate that something has to be presented in this fashion for it to receive legitimacy.

The article mentions the topic of UFO crash retrievals, which is the idea that governments have, in this case, the U.S. government, recovered debris from crashed UFOs. It mentions Harry Reid, a retired American attorney, and politician who served as the United States Senator in Nevada from 1987 to 2017. Reid has been quite active in trying to get congress and others within the government to look into this issue more in order to bring it out into the public domain.

We already know that the Pentagon has, and has had, programs to study the phenomenon. This is a matter of public record. The agency disclosed to the public is called the “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force”, but remember that the United States has a history of government agencies existing in secret for years. The National Security Agency (NSA) was founded in 1952, its existence was hidden until the mid-1960s. Even more secretive is the National Reconnaissance Office, which was founded in 1960 but remained completely secret for 30 years.

According to the article, Reid states that he,

“was told for decades that Lockheed had some of these retrieved materials, […] And I tried to get, as I recall, a classified approval by the Pentagon to have me go look at the stuff. They would not approve of that. I don’t know what all the numbers were, what kind of classification it was, but they would not give that to me.”

Kraus reached out to Lockheed but there was no response.

Speaking of Lockheed, Steve Justice, a recently retired Director of Advanced Systems at Lockheed Skunkworks, has also alluded to the idea that this type of technology is real. He has been quite outspoken about the “black budget” world, and crafts that can mimic the capabilities that are observed in unidentified aerial phenomenon by, as he once said, employing a driver system that alters the space-time metric. He once stated:

“We have glimpses of how the physics of this works, but we need to harvest technologies from the Science Division to realize the capability.” (source)

I saw him state this during a Livestream as well when he was with To The Stars Academy. He has since left this organization.

His statement is another way of saying that these technologies exist within the “science division”, wherever that may be.

This is an idea that has been given credibility by many “high ranking” people from within various governments. For example, Apollo 13 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell once told the world that “Yes there have been crashed craft, and bodies recovered.” He is seen making these statements in this documentary.

Eric W. Davis, a renowned astrophysicist who worked with the Pentagon UFO program stated that he gave a classified briefing to a Defense Department Agency, as recently as March 2020 about retrievals from “off-world vehicles not made on this Earth.” Christopher Mellon, a former Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for Intelligence from 1997 to 2002 has confirmed that he was present during this testimony. He himself has been quite outspoken about the phenomenon over the past few years.  Dr. David Clarke, an investigative journalist, reader, and lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University who was also the curator for The National Archives UFO Project from 2008–2013, came across some interesting documents suggesting that the UK was desperate to capture UFO technology. Paul Hellyer, former Canadian defense minister claimed that the protocol when military jets were scrambled to intercept a UFO was to “shoot first and ask questions after.”

These are simply a few of many examples that lend credibility to how the government has viewed UFOs over the decades. Interestingly, the most viewed document in the FBI archive is about a supposed crash of three UFOs that contained bodies inside.

Have governments done anything with this technology? 

Documents obtained by The Drive show that revolutionary technology that has the capability to alter space-time may actually be “operable”, according to Naval Aviation Enterprise Chief Technology Officer Dr. James Sheehy, seen in the picture above. You can read more about that story here.

What about the supposed bodies? How did these objects crash? Were they brought down by us? I hope not, but given the nature of our race it’s not unlikely to assume that we would be more of a threat to life in the cosmos than an extraterrestrial space-faring race would be to us, but that’s just me speculating. I don’t know. What I do find interesting about the phenomenon is that most of the examples that are available in the public domain show that they perform evasive maneuvers.

This has been emphasized by many, like Canadian Defense Minister Paul Hellyer in 2008, General Nathan Twining in the 1940s, and more recently Richard F. Haines, a senior NASA research scientist for more than two decades now.

In my research, I haven’t really come across anything that is indicative of a threat, so I hope mainstream coverage and government disclosure don’t take it there. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t legitimate “national security” concerns, but to take the stance that these objects represent a threat doesn’t seem to be evidence-based in my opinion.

Why This Is Important

Mainstream UFO disclosure can be confusing. For example, why is the military witness testimony of certain pilots involved in a UFO incident that was released and confirmed by the Pentagon a few years ago credible and worthy of mainstream coverage, but the testimony of a high ranking Air Force Colonel, like Ross Dedrickson, not brought up at all?

Is this because Dedrickson claimed to have knowledge about extraterrestrials and what they are concerned about? Is this going too far for people? Again, who dictates and determines “what is too much” for people to handle? Why determines what is credible and not credible? Is it because there is no data about ETs? Or is it because data about ETs has been withheld, just as data about UFOs were withheld?

When UFOs were ridiculed, there was a lot of “evidence” for their existence. There is a lot of “evidence” for the idea that some of these objects are not human in origin, but again, a lot of people still have “feelings” about taking it there.

Will we ever get the entire truth?

Kraus states in his article that,

The government may or may not care about the resolution of the U.F.O enigma. But in throwing up its hands and granting that there are things it simply cannot figure out, it has relaxed its grip on the taboo. For many, this has been a comfort.

It’s great to see and know that this topic is no longer taboo to discuss. But again, it’s unfortunate that there seems to be a “mainstream culture”, for lack of a better word, that dictates what can be spoken about still. Why does this culture get to decide when something is taboo or not? Furthermore, if governments and intelligence agencies come out and say “this is what we know” can we really trust them at this point? Is it really all they know? Is releasing some information a way to stop the conversation about it, or at least limit it?

For example, when a program or information is declassified, how can we be so certain that that’s all there is to it? Is more information concealed for national security purposes, or other purposes? What implications might that secrecy still have?

Media and government manipulation is something citizens always have to be wary of. A CIA document pertaining to media and government relationship states that the CIA task force:

“now has relationships with reporters from every major wire service, newspaper, news weekly, and television network in the nation, [and that] “this has helped us turn some ‘intelligence failure’ stories into ‘intelligence success” stories,’ and has contributed to the accuracy of countless others.” [the agency has] “persuaded reporters to postpone, change, hold, or even scrap stories that could have adversely affected national security interests or jeopardized sources and methods.”

Let’s not forget about Operation Mockingbird.

Although it is a document outlining their desire to become more open and transparent, the deception outlined by various whistleblowers and pieces of evidence requires us to read between the lines and recognize that the relationships shared between intelligence agencies and our sources of information are not always warranted and pose inherent conflicts of interest.

Herein lies the problem: What is “national security,” and who determines that definition? JFK bravely told the world that the:

“dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweigh the dangers which are cited to justify it. […] there is a very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment.”

What are the justifications for UFO secrecy?

Don’t get me wrong, I am quite convinced that there are many people within government, normal people like you and me, who simply want to know what this phenomenon is all about and are passionate about truth and transparency. It’s a complicated topic that’s been drenched in secrecy for years. As far as why this secrecy has occurred is an entirely different discussion. Perhaps this campaign of secrecy was done with the best of intentions? Perhaps not? Perhaps it is and was a mix of both? I don’t know, but there’s nothing wrong with discussing and speculating, especially in a time when speculation and opinion are being condemned in multiple fields.

I also believe there are other reasons for secrecy that go beyond “it’s too much for the people to handle” and that “it’s a national security issue.” These reasons may go into protecting certain interests, like profits of the energy industry among others. Based on my research, any type of technology that can release humanity’s dependence on big corporations is somehow always kept on the back-burner, at least until it can be monopolized and put out in a way that benefits those who control it.

UFO technology could perhaps collapse the entire economy and our way of life as we know it by offering new modes of energy generation that, as Tesla once said, use the “wheelwork of nature.” Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe there are ways to provide abundance to all without requiring us to work within our current demanding lifestyles? Perhaps we don’t have to be dependant on money?

Reasons like this are sometimes hard for people to examine. It can be scary for some to even contemplate the idea of a government or powerful set of people who are actively taking measures to prevent humanity from thriving. Perhaps that is a conspiracy theory? Perhaps it’s not. I do believe there is enough information and evidence to at least have that conversation, and I think it’s an important one to have and consider.

But as you could note by my above statements, the UFO topic has the potential to change how we live our day-to-day lives in society due to what abundance it could provide for the average person. While this is not obvious when exploring the subject, this has been one of the drivers of our passionate research over the years.

The Takeaway

As I’ve said many times, I don’t think we will ever get anything significant from government disclosure than what’s already known about the phenomenon among researchers who have been studying it for decades. So don’t get your hopes up. Perhaps the fact that these objects are real is all we will get, but who knows?

Is this an issue where the citizenry has to take initiative to find out more? Why is the idea, for example, of trying to make contact with these objects in a citizen-initiated way taboo or “crazy” within the mainstream? If we want to find out more about this topic, perhaps we have to try and do so ourselves? Why is it that when the government tries to find out, it’s “official” but when citizens try and do it, it’s a “cult?”

Are human beings at a point in our culture where we are capable of exploring this topic without labeling the phenomenon as “demonic” or “angelic.” Can’t we just accept that there may be other consciousness’ in the universe that takes on a similar, but different physical form? The discussion of what these objects are seems to be the next step, and it’s being had, but it’s taken decades for the topic to exit the “taboo” realm, how long will it take for the implications of the phenomenon and deeper questions that it leads to, to be considered no longer taboo?

It leaves no aspect of humanity untouched, it goes into consciousness, physics, the nature of our society, history, other dimensions, and more, but many people within this community don’t want to go there until it is “confirmed” by a “credible” source. This in my opinion is a problem.

Some sources the masses rely on as “credible” are more manipulative than credible, and that’s something we have to come to terms with. It’s OK to speculate. Perhaps our definition of “evidence” needs to change in order to go above and beyond the limitations of “science.”

• The Facts: Many out there seeking truth seem to believe that the UFO phenomenon is fake, a deception being used by the “powers that be” to usher in a New World Order.
• Reflect On: Does mainstream culture and government engage in misinformation and perception manipulation of a real phenomenon? Yes. But not all the time. So where do UFOs fit into this question?

Many of you reading this are probably well aware of the fact that mainstream UFO disclosure is taking off, and has been taking off over the past couple of years. Major media outlets like the New York Times and CNN have covered the topic with extreme legitimacy, and given the fact that much of the public rely on these outlets for information, they are now becoming aware of the fact that there are objects in our atmosphere performing maneuvers that no known man-made piece of machinery can.

This seems strange to many, however, every time we (Collective Evolution) post an article, there is no shortage of comments stating that all of this is some sort of deception. That either the global elite are staging sightings using some sort of advanced technology in order to prepare for some sort of false flag alien invasion, or that governments are working with malevolent extraterrestrials to do so, both options seem to be for the same purpose which would be to help usher in the “New World Order.” These are the claims.

If anything, based on my research these objects are very real, there is not much evidence that they represent a malevolent force, and that governments and mainstream media may twist our perception of the phenomenon to help bring about aspects of what some call “The New World Order.”

The idea of a “New World Order” has been a common theme within multiple subjects. In essence, the idea of a New World Order is that there is a conspiracy to create a new totalitarian world government that would not benefit people as a whole. It includes the rollout of measures under the guise of goodwill to combat “problems” our world is facing. Proponents of the New World Order theory believe that many of these problems, like climate change and COVID, are manufactured and/or used to justify more surveillance. It also includes a digital world armed with more tracking, surveillance, and the acquisition of data from all citizens, as well as the rollout of various laws and reforms that continually lead us to a world where many of our rights and freedoms are stripped from us. Again, all of this under the guise of goodwill and for “our protection.”

With the current COVID ‘crisis’, many believe “New World Order” has been replaced with “The Great Reset.” (You can read more about The Great Reset here). Right now rights and freedoms that we once enjoyed are not accessible to many, and luxuries like travel and attending public entertainment venues may require a vaccine. These and many more are all aspects of this New World Order according to many.

There’s no doubt in my mind that issues like pandemics, climate change, geopolitical issues, and the “war on terror” have been used, perpetuated, and manufactured in some sense by those who wish to propose the solution that benefits them the most. There is, in my opinion, an abundance of evidence that supports these feelings and we’ve written about them for more than a decade here at Collective Evolution.

I do believe there has been and continues to be, an ongoing push for a state of fear, a world of chaos that requires “big brother” to step in and give us a solution. That solution seems to be a world where yes, many of our rights and freedoms are taken away.

Where UFOs Come In

So what about the UFO phenomenon? Do I believe it’s being used to bring about a New World Order? To be honest, I am not quite sure. But just as I believe terrorism, COVID, geopolitical issues and much more are all being used by the political and financial elite to gain more profit and control over the human race, I do believe it’s a possibility.

I do not, however, believe the phenomenon is manufactured, and this is where critical thinking and discernment come into play. Unlike other issues like terrorism, climate change, and more, UFOs were ridiculed for decades and deemed a “conspiracy theory.” The very first director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, admitted to a long campaign of “ridicule and secrecy” behind the topic.

But you don’t need an admittance of ridicule. Anybody who has studied the UFO subject in-depth can easily see that the subject has been ridiculed and thrown into the conspiracy theory bucket for years. So my question for all of those who believe this is some sort of fake deception is, why would so much time and resources be spent on ridiculing the subject in the past, claiming all leaks and footage of UFOs are fake, and that those who believe in them are nuts? Why would they use mainstream media networks, famed talk shows, and more to completely ridicule the idea that these objects are real if they wanted to convince the entire population that they are indeed real? It just doesn’t make any sense to me and it points to a more complex situation.

During these times, a number of researchers in the field, including myself, were well aware of the reality of the phenomenon despite this massive ridicule in the time where they were considered a “conspiracy theory.” Big media and government using the term “conspiracy theory” has always been used to ridicule and silence dissenters of officially established opinion or “fact.”

The point is, not everything mainstream media presents is deception or fake. Take 9/11, for example, the buildings actually did collapse, that wasn’t fake. What seemed to be a potential deception was the perception and explanations given to us by mainstream media, and sure, the event itself may have been orchestrated by those who stood to benefit off of it – a topic we’ve inquired about in depth.

Another great example would be COVID vaccines or vaccines in general, any conversation that paints vaccines in a questionable light is being deemed a “conspiracy theory” by many people, despite the fact that there are a number of scientists, doctors, and peer-reviewed research that have raised cause for concern.

If this was some sort of holographic type of deception phenomenon, then why have UFOs been documented in antiquity for thousands of years? You can find a few examples here, but there are many.

When it comes to the UFO phenomenon, I do believe there are people out there, as with all other issues, that would like to use this phenomenon and shape the masses’ perception of it. I do believe there is a possibility to present the phenomenon as a threat, which is concerning given the fact that these objects do not represent this narrative at all.  The U.S. Department of Defense’s “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force” even states the following:

The Department of Defense established the UAPTF to improve its understanding of and gain insight into, the nature and origins of UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon). The mission of the task force is to detect, analyze and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose a threat to U.S. national security.

Again, in no way do these objects represent a threat, and there is no reason to assume this. Granted, that doesn’t mean they don’t either. You can read more in-depth as to why I believe this is clear, here.

THIS is where I believe the deception is, I think it’s quite irrational to assume that all of the UFO activity we see is some sort of fake deception. This perspective lacks critical thinking and more importantly, lacks any evidence as well. The idea that there are only malevolent beings working with governments to enslave humanity also goes against a wealth of information and data that’s been collected by researchers over the years.

It’s easy to read a book, like “Behold A Pale Horse” where one man makes a claim, but we mustn’t simply look at the information that complies with what we believe. This is a topic that is quite in-depth and requires a lot of examination. Information has to be collected and synthesized amongst the collective, not made into a belief system. This type of thinking is rampant in the alternative community which is in part why we put together a course of overcoming bias & improving critical thinking as we are in a time where we have to improve the way we discern information.

I think there’s one thing we can all agree on, and that’s the fact that mainstream media and government cannot be blindly trusted nor relied upon for any accurate information on a topic. That doesn’t mean every single topic they address is fake. Government and mainstream media have largely become tools of perception manipulation, meaning a lot of the time they take real issues, events, and phenomena and attempt to paint the masses’ perception around them. It’s likely a mix of agenda and culture that drives this.

Within the “truth movement”, there is still an inability to decipher and have appropriate conversations about what is and what isn’t. Many “conspiracies,” are and have been proven to be true, but at the same time “conspiracies within conspiracies” have developed without any appropriate sources or evidence to back them up. This gives those within the “mainstream” the ability to label all those within the “truth” movement and discredit them, quite easily.

A lot of the time with this subject, narratives are created out of thin air with absolutely no evidence at all to back them. Speculation is OK and necessary, but we have to be careful pushing a narrative as truth, especially if we are trying to reach those “within” the mainstream. We mustn’t forget the importance of evidence, or the ability to speculate based on a certain set of evidence and data or something to support our claims that goes beyond simple speculation.

Late last month, reports emerged that a number of U.S. Navy-guided missile destroyers sailing off the coast near Los Angeles encountered a swarm of strange unidentified flying objects or drones in 2019. While Navy investigators looked into the strange incident, no explanation has since been given.

However, new footage has been leaked to documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell that shows the strange flying objects swarming above one of the ships, and the Pentagon has confirmed that the videos are authentic.

“I can confirm that the referenced photos and videos were taken by Navy personnel,” a Department of Defense spokesperson told Futurism.

The US Navy photographed and filmed “pyramid” shaped UFOs and “spherical” advanced transmedium vehicles; here is that footage.

In the brief footage, which appears to have been recorded with night vision cameras, triangular or pyramid-shaped objects can be seen hovering above the deck of a Navy destroyer.

According to Corbell, the Pentagon has gone to great lengths to disavow any connection to the swarming UAVs.

“This was taken on deployment from the USS Russell,” Corbell told Mystery Wire. “It shows what they described as vehicles. And they made a great distinction. They made sure in this classified briefing, they made a great distinction that this is not something that we own either a black project, this is not something of a foreign military, that these were behaving in ways that we did not expect.“

“And that they were you know shaped non aerodynamically,” he added. “Like pyramids, these are flying pyramids!”

The video, as well as a number of photos from the incident, have all been gathered by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, a group tasked with investigating encounters between the different service branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and a number of unidentified flying objects.

While officials have been baffled by the unknown flying objects, in recent years the Pentagon has been more vocal about past encounters, which they describe as having been frequent. Officials have also discouraged the use of the acronym “UFOs,” instead opting to describe them as unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs.

In the beginning, there was…

Well, this would depend on whom you’re asking! Personally, I feel that the All came from Nothing (Zero-point, the Void, and what Buddhism calls Sunyata); and thus became everything…ever-expanding. The infinite potential at rest awoke, and once self-aware burst forth splinters of its own consciousness outward. Without movement, there can be no creation…no manifestation.

I further believe that the moment Source Consciousness became aware of itself; the very first sound waves formed and thus began what we could call “divine motion”. Everything that grows needs movement in some form in order to do so. This is a rule of Nature and us humans are included. There is something hard-wired not only in our DNA but in the deepest roots of our hearts that tell us we are here to ultimately grow and expand.

We may think that we simply exist only in this third-dimensional reality, but this is just the playground of creation. We are all here, whether we know it or not, to make a difference in the lives of those we encounter during our time around. And also, to make a difference in our very own lives as this is how we grow inter-dimensionally. While we are traditionally taught to rely on our physical senses, to travel to other realms, you need to be in tune with those senses beyond your physical five. It’s the letting go of our “this world” attachments, which ultimately frees us to rise in frequency to match those “other world” spaces in the cosmos.

We’ve all been there where a certain area of our lives just feels so incredibly stagnant. The energy around it is heavy, dull, and while there is an underlying tone yearning to come forth, you can feel yourself literally holding something back within yourself. If we don’t understand we are actually doing this to ourselves, it can just feel like life is out to get us and no matter what we do, we continue to be “stuck”.

When we are in this kind of space, we are often closed off to inspiration, creativity, and of course the most obvious – action. But like they say that the truth shall set you free, so will a simple thought. A thought that can lead you to action, or to even change your actions from one resonance to another, is one that has tremendous energy behind it. And this is exactly the type of thoughts you want to have if you wish to visit dimensions higher than our 3-D plane.

You may have heard of your “Higher Self” and this could perhaps be the most popular reason that most people decided to “travel”. Your Higher Self is you, yet that part of you that is not attached to this physical realm and is your direct connection to divine guidance. Listening to your Higher Self could be equated to talking with your Spirit, or that inner voice that is always guiding you towards your greatness. The voice that always warns you with “gut feelings” and pulls on your heartstrings.

When we are open to this guidance, we begin to know ourselves as the multi-dimensional beings we are. And just like the first thought of creation, and just like the entire Universe itself (and the parallel ones all around us), we are ever-expanding. And the more we reach outward, by applying what we’ve learned from reaching inward, we begin to learn that everything travels in waves and that nothing is guaranteed except the potential of its existence.  We open a door for ourselves on a conscious level that allows us to remember that first sound, by hearing it within ourselves; the infinite beating of the cosmic drum that connects every single heart across time and space.

New Mexico has long been considered the mecca for people interested in UFO incidents, with the southwestern state attracting tens of thousands of annual visitors to the alleged sites of close encounters in Roswell, as well as other sightings such as the Lonnie Zamora incident and the Aztec UFO crash.

With such a rich history of alleged sightings of unidentified flying objects in New Mexico, it should come as no surprise that another close encounter has been reported – this time by a commercial airline pilot on Sunday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m. local time on Sunday, an unidentified aerial craft reportedly whooshed past American Airlines flight 2292 in the northern part of the state, startling the pilot who expressed his shock over the strange object flying overhead at a breathtaking rate of speed.

In a 15-second recording that was obtained by self-described “stealth chaser” Steve Douglass of Amarillo, Texas, and published on his blog Deep Black Horizon, the pilot can be heard excitedly communicating with air traffic controllers about the strange sighting he saw above the clouds during the passenger flight.

“Do you have any targets up here?” the pilot asks the Federal Aviation Administration, traffic controllers.

“We just had something go right over the top of us,” he continues. “I hate to say this, but it looked like a long, cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile type of thing moving really fast, and went right over the top of us.”

However, the response from Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center can’t be heard due to local air traffic in Amarillo interfering with the channel, Douglass said. The blogger and author of “The Comprehensive Guide to Military Monitoring” also noted that there was no “no significant military aircraft presence was noted on ADS-B logs” and that the flight proceeded to land without incident at its destination in Phoenix, Arizona.

While the FAA has yet to comment on the strange encounter, American Airlines has confirmed that the recording of the radio communications with the pilot is fully authentic.

Following a debrief with our Flight Crew and additional information received, we can confirm this radio transmission was from American Airlines Flight 2292 on Feb. 21,” a spokesman for the airliner wrote in an email to Fox News. The spokesman added that any additional inquiries should be addressed to the FBI.

However, the FBI response was equally opaque.

“The FBI is aware of the reported incident,” bureau spokesman Frank Connor wrote in an email. “While our policy is to neither confirm nor deny investigations, the FBI works continuously with our federal, state, local and tribal partners to share intelligence and protect the public.”

Furthermore, authorities at the nearby Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque reported that they had been alerted to the supposed encounter through the media, but officials at the base were not discussing the matter.

“We have no knowledge of this. We’re not aware of anything,” Lally Laksbergs told Wall Street Journal. Officials at White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico have not yet responded to media inquiries.

However, Douglass has expressed doubt that the close encounter was with a military projectile.

“It was a Sunday. Basically, it’s a military’s day off,” Douglass told KVII News, where he works as a photographer. “When tests occur, the military notifies the FAA, aircraft are kept out of the area and their schedules and strict flight lanes as aircraft need to stay in to not interfere with these tests. That’s not what happened.”

“Whatever it was came fast, right at them and right over them, which gave them a big enough scare that they had to report it,” he added. “If the military can’t explain what it is, what’s flying out there that we don’t know about?”

In recent years, officials with the U.S. government have been increasingly vocal in their discussions of UFOs, which they prefer to refer to as unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs.

In September 2019, U.S. Navy officials admitted that widely-circulating video footage captured by Navy pilots purportedly showing UFOs flying through the skies did, in fact, depict actual “unknown” objects that flew into U.S. airspace. The videos had been released months prior by To The Stars Academy of Arts & Sciences (TTS), a private “UFO research organization” founded by former Blink 182 frontman Tom De Longe.

• The Facts: Reasonable evidence suggests that the CIA hired “remote viewers” to find out information about extraterrestrials visiting our planet, their intentions, and also potential extraterrestrial bases that exist on Earth.
• Reflect On: The UFO phenomenon is no longer taboo. The reality of it has gone mainstream and so too has the extraterrestrial hypothesis. What are the implications of exploring this topic? Can we really trust Government for any accurate information?

What Happened: A paper published one year after the declassification of the CIA/Stanford remote viewing program in the Journal of Scientific Exploration by one of the program’s co-founders, Hal Puthoff, shows how successful the program was and how many individuals demonstrated “high-quality remote viewing.” It was repeatable and used multiple times for intelligence collection purposes. Years later there is good reason to believe it was also used by the CIA to obtain information about extraterrestrials that are visiting Earth.

This seems quite evident for multiple reasons. One is the fact that multiple army/CIA remote viewers have a heavy interest in the extraterrestrial phenomenon. Ingo Swann, for example, writes about this in his book “Penetration: The Question of Human and Extraterrestrial Telepathy.”

Pat Price, described as one of Stanford’s most successful remote viewers alongside Swann is known for viewing, according to him, four different alien bases that are, apparently, located on our planet. This claim is also corroborated by a very interesting CIA document I recently came across sifting through the declassified literature on the remote viewing program. The document shows that the agency, using an unnamed viewer, also attempted to view, as the document clearly states, the headquarters of the “Galactic Federation.” This apparently represents an alliance of extraterrestrials.  You can read more about that specific story here.

Furthermore, Lyn Buchanan, also one of the army remote viewers, claims, as multiple others within the program have, that he was tasked to find out information on multiple extraterrestrial groups that were/are visiting the planet. He was tasked to find out, through remote viewing, what their intentions were/are.  You can read more about that story here.

• The Facts:Declassified FBI documents mention the idea that Nikola Tesla had a “connection” with “Space People” and was brought here by them as a baby. This was apparently not revealed until 1950 according to the information in the document.
• Reflect On:Although the claims within the document are not verifiable and may very well be untrue as much as they could be true, Nikola Tesla had a well-documented interest in life on other planets and believed to have received signals from them.

Many decades ago Wernher Von Brauns mentor Hermann Oberth, the founding father of rocketry and astronautics, also known as the ‘father of Spaceflight’ stated his belief that “flying saucers are real” and that “they are space ships from another solar system. I think that they possibly are manned by intelligent observers who are members of a race that may have been investigating our Earth for centuries.” He wrote these words in “Flying Saucers Come From A Distant World”, The American  Weekly, Oct 24, 1954. At the time, academics like Oberth were well aware of the UFO phenomenon, and today the topic has gained even more ‘credibility’ given that multiple governments have now confirmed the existence of these objects. There is no shortage of radar tracking data, video evidence, photo evidence, and high-ranking witness testimony that’s now available within the public domain. This seems to be confusing many people, as “mainstream UFO disclosure” is taking off after a decades-long campaign of “ridicule and secrecy.”(Ex-CIA Director Roscoe Hillenkoetter).

Nikola Tesla, who was born prior to Oberth, also had a strong interest when it came to the idea of life on other planets. There are many examples of documenting this fact. For example, in an interview he gave to Time at the age of 75, Tesla stated the following:

I think that nothing can be more important than interplanetary communication. It will certainly come someday, and the certitude that there are other human beings in the universe, working, suffering, struggling, like ourselves, will produce a magic effect on mankind and will form the foundation of a universal brotherhood that will last as long as humanity itself.

No doubt that contact, communication, and relationships with beings from other worlds would have huge implications and change human consciousness forever. It would truly leave, as I’ve said many times before, no aspect of humanity untouched.

There are many more examples and interesting statements from Tesla which we will get to later, but first I wanted to draw your attention to some declassified Federal Bureau of Investigation Documents (FBI) that were kept by the agency pertaining to Tesla. The document is a record of an “Interplanetary Sessions Newsletter” from 1957. The newsletter seems to be a printed promotion of a lecture to be given by George Van Tassel. The newsletter appears to be written by writer Margaret Storm, along with what appears to be her husband, John. What’s interesting to ask is, why was the FBI so interested to the point where they documented these meetings, discussions, and gatherings? Why did they keep records of this specific newsletter? Is it because they had a heavy interest in the UFO/extraterrestrial phenomenon? Remember, this is from the 1950s, today we now know that governments and intelligence agencies, like the FBI, have had a long and documented interest in the phenomenon.

Part of the document reads as follows,

Margaret Storm has been assigned to certain work with the Space People, she is writing a book – Return of the Dove – a story of the life of Nikola Tesla, a scientist, and the part his inventions will play in the New Age. Much of the data for this book has been supplied to Mrs. Storm through transcripts received on the Tesla set, the radio-type machine invented by Tesla in 1938 for Interplanetary Communication. Tesla died in 1943 and his engineers did not build the Tesla set until after his death. It was placed in operation in 1950 and since that time the Tesla engineers have been in close touch with space ships. The Space People have visited the Tesla engineers many times, and have told us that Tesla was a Venusian, brought to this planet as a baby, in 1856, and left with Mr. and Mrs. Tesla in a remote mountain province in what is now Yugoslavia. Tesla’s connection with the Space People…was not revealed until 1950.

Whether or not you believe this is up to you, as there is no real way to verify the claims. The document brings up more related UFO phenomenon.

As far as George Van Tassel goes, he had a long career in aviation, starting off with Douglas Aircraft and then moving on to Hughes and finishing with Lockheed. In the early 50’s he went public claiming he had contact experiences with people from space. According to him, these beings issued warnings of destruction given humanity’s ways along with messages of universal peace. After this, they apparently began instructing Tassel on how to construct a building that could reverse the aging process. It was called “The Integration” and the project consumed all of his time He claimed the instructions for the device came from extraterrestrials from the planet Venus. Having studied the lore of the UFO/extraterrestrial phenomenon for more than 15 years now, one thing I find particularly interesting are the stories and encounters that involve messages of concern about the direction humanity is needed and the urgent need to change our course to avoid poverty, war, hunger, environmental destruction, and disaster. There are countless examples of this, one of many would-be the encounter more than 60 school children had in Zimbabwe in 1994. I emphasize again that there are thousands of examples, and the corroboration and similarities of these messages of supposed contact experiences are truly interesting, to say the least.

Just because the claims in the document cannot be verified, does not mean that Tesla’s interest in extraterrestrial communication is not verified. As mentioned earlier in the article, it is. For example, according to the Library of Congress, Tesla claimed to have received radio communications from Mars. They cite an article from the Richmond Times purported to offer an extensive description and commentary of his supposed discovery. “As he sat beside his instrument on the hillside in Colorado, in the deep silence of that austere, inspiring region, where you plant your feet in gold and your head brushes the constellations — as he sat there one evening, alone, his attention, exquisitely alive at that juncture, was arrested by a faint sound from the receiver — three fairy taps, one after the other, at a fixed interval. What man who has ever lived on this earth would not envy Tesla that moment!”

A direct quote from Tesla below, taken from his piece, “Talking With Planets.”

I can never forget the first sensations I experienced when it dawned upon me that I had observed something possibly of incalculable consequences to mankind. I felt as though I were present at the birth of new knowledge or the revelation of a great truth. Even now, at times, I can vividly recall the incident and see my apparatus as though it were actually before me. My first observations positively terrified me, as there was present in them something mysterious, not to say supernatural, and I was alone in my laboratory at night; but that time the idea of these disturbances being intelligently controlled signals did not yet present itself to me.

The changes I noted were taking place periodically, and with such a clear suggestion of number and order that they were not traceable to any cause then known to me. I was familiar, of course, with such electrical disturbances as are produced by the sun, Aurora Borealis, and earth currents, and I was sure as I could be of any fact that these variations were due to none of these causes. The nature of my experiments precluded the possibility of the changes being produced by atmospheric disturbances, as has been rashly asserted by some. It was some time afterward when the thought flashed upon my mind that the disturbances I had observed might be due to an intelligent control. Although I could not decipher their meaning, it was impossible for me to think of them as having been entirely accidental. The feeling is constantly growing on me that I had been the first to hear the greeting of one planet to another…I was not merely beholding a vision, but had caught sight of a great and profound truth.

Another example of Tesla’s thoughts, in his own words:

Others may scoff at this suggestion…(of) communicating with one of our heavenly neighbors, as Mars…or treat it as a practical joke, but I have been in deep earnest about it ever since I made my first observations in Colorado Springs…At the time, there existed no wireless plant other than mine that could produce a disturbance perceptible in a radius of more than a few miles. Furthermore, the conditions under which I operated were ideal, and I was well trained for the work. The character of the disturbances recorded precluded the possibility of their being of terrestrial origin, and I also eliminated the influence of the sun, moon, and Venus. As I then announced, the signals consisted of regular repetition of numbers, and subsequent study convinced me that they must have emanated from Mars, the planet having just then been close to the earth. Final Thoughts: It’s quite clear that Tesla had a strong interest in extraterrestrial life and attempted communication. It’s amazing how he was the first person to develop equipment that could pick up on signals coming from space as well as other planets. Today, signals of unknown origin are commonplace in the scientific community, massive radio bursts and other anomalies are commonly detected.

As Tesla alludes to early on in this article, contact has huge implications. It will and is currently forcing humanity to look at a broader view of reality and entertain concepts that perhaps once did not fit within the framework of accepted knowledge. Through all stages of human history, plausible concepts and even ones that are backed by evidence and examples have always faced harsh opposition and resistance.

We are still a very young race and no doubt there are truths waiting ‘out there’ for us to discover. One thing is for certain, we definitely do not have our affairs here on planet Earth in order. As we grow it seems we question our lives more and more, what we are doing here and why we do it. We have the potential to create a much better human experience for all life on the planet  We seem to continually put our ability to change the world for the better into the hands of those who may not have our best interests at heart. Somehow, someway, it’s time for us to take responsibility and begin creating a human experience that resonates with all and is in harmony with mother Earth. How do we do this? I don’t know, but I do know that staying silent, not exploring, and not expanding our consciousness is not the answer. We need to be able to talk about controversial topics openly, and those who oppose mainstream narratives should not be ridiculed nor censored.
